Not Just a Patch

Mani di sarta

“No one tears a piece from a new garment and puts it on an old garment. If he does, he will tear the new, and the piece from the new will not match the old.” Luke 5:36

When you own a home you are always looking for ways to save time and money. I can just make a quick patch here instead of going to the store and buying a completely new item. When you get a rip in your jeans you can either try to make a fashion statement by wearing holey jeans or try to patch them up and look like you’re from the early 90’s.

It’s cheaper and usually easier to just patch things up than it is to get something brand new. You don’t have to start ‘all over’ on that thing nor do you have to suffer the expense of paying for that new thing. It’s easier. It’s more comfortable and it helps you feel like you are still in control.

Following Jesus is the complete opposite. We don’t get to graft Him into specific areas of our lives. We have to hit the reset button entirely. We don’t get to choose to accept some things of Him and ignore the other stuff. We have to go ALL IN. We may not completely understand this new thing which means we have to let go our control.

Are you trying to create patches in your life now? Are there areas in your life that you just need to hit the reset button on and go ALL IN on?

Father, help us to see our lives as you see them. Help us to know how to go ALL IN with you. Give us the faith to trust that you are and will be in control and that you will provide.
