“Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.” 1 Corinthians 6:18 (ESV)

Nike made that line famous – or it made Nike more famous than ever. It’s one of the greatest slogans to come along in the past 30 years. It brings to mind images of cool shoes and people running and running and running some more.

And it fits this wisdom the Apostle Paul tells us to do when sexual temptation comes. We flee – get away – run – Get Outta Dodge! We run away from those types of temptations and horrific options because it’s not something we need to manage or fight or resist. If we were supposed to “overcome it” or fight the feeling or resist, that’s what Jesus would have told us via Paul.

Instead – we are given a down to earth, real life, practical move to make: RUN!

The coolest part about running from what is sinful and harmful against us, is that when followers of Jesus flee from that, they run straight to and into Him.  Run From – Run To.

That’s a key to living a free and abundant life in Jesus, living out a restored and redeemed life because of all Jesus has done for us, and giving glory to God in the simple act of obedience that is running. If you want to live and remain free – RUN. If you are stuck and mired in it – RUN (to Jesus, to the Written Word, to community based in Jesus – Run From and Run To).

God, help me to live out the practical truth You give us in dealing with sexual temptation and struggle. Help me to run when I need to run. You are my Redeemer and You will restore everything – thank You for Your wisdom and for being the One to Whom I run. Amen
